Just when you thought they'd tried out ever Smartphone shape, size and configuration imaginable, here comes the Samsung Galaxy Hit to prove just how wrong you are.
There's no denying that that Samsung Galaxy Note lineup is an astonishing global success. Not only have the three generations to date sold millions of devices all over the world, but the first Note will always be credited with kick-starting the Phablet market which prior to the Note's launch didn't even exist.
However, even at this late stage in the game and will millions of sales under its belt, there are still those that aren't won over by the Note in any way, shape or form. They argue that the Note – along with most of its rivals – technically fill a gap in the market that doesn't exist, being too large to use comfortably as Smartphones and too small to be considered tablet PCs.
The solution? Well, some single out the Asus Padfone series as a much more viable range, which is quite literally a Smartphone and a tablet PC in one. It's not what you'd call a success story on the same level as the Note…at least not here in the US…but it's impossible to deny the appeal of a device that brings the best of all worlds in the way the Padfone does.
And if this weekend's new patent filing is anything to go by, the Samsung Galaxy Hit will be the firm's first attempt to conquer the fledgling "true" Phablet market the Padfone currently calls its own.
Benchmark sightings have suggested that again just like the Padfone, the Smartphone portion of the Samsung Galaxy Hit will boast a higher-resolution screen than the tablet PC docking station it slots into. Other than that, it's all a bit of a mystery as Samsung hasn't made any official announcements or even confirmed that the Galaxy Hit exists.
What do you think – will the next Galaxy Smartphone be a Hit in name only?
